Dickens spoke of the best and worst of times in his classic “A Tale of Two Cities.” A timeless phrase, it applies just as well now as it did in his 19th century Britain and France. It is a literary homage to Isaiah’s milenia-old aphorism, “Arise, shine for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you”(Isaiah 60:1). Centuries later, Yeshua would refer more than once to the light of God rising in Him, His followers, and increasing as darkness grew in this world. So it goes today.
Our journey to Israel last month yielded some powerful footage of the great blessing that Israel and her “Sons of Promise” have brought to the world. It was very satisfying to capture fruitful, life-giving works in technology, medicine, ministry, music, and reconciliation. We are looking forward to the finished product of the series.
At the recent Messianic Leaders Roundtable, Katharine and I were further blessed by the growth and maturity in love that we experienced among the attendees. Host Jonathan Bernis of Jewish Voice Ministries provided a forum (at his own ministry’s cost!) for a diverse group of Jewish and gentile leaders to interact and learn from one another. It exceeded our expectations. We felt welcomed and received great feedback for the ZLM projects as well as our ministry to Beth Shalom and Beit Abba in California.
This gathering was a living expression of the unity called for in Psalm 133 and John 17.
The Messianic movement is maturing.
Not only was more grey hair, less hair, more “fat bones” in evidence – there was a notable presence of love for the Master and one another. A commitment to one another’s success was the tone set by Jonathan. I found myself crying more than once, in gratitude at the precious experience of unity, where “God commands the blessing.”
As war and rumors of war increase, God is raising up His remnant around the world.
Light is shining in the darkness.

What a Day!
We interviewed Jan Willem van der Hoeven, of the International Christian Zionist Center. With the city spread out behind us, he passionately appealed to the worldwide community of faith to stand with Israel. Pastor van der Hoeven was discipled by Corrie Ten Boom, author of The Hiding Place, and he has lived and worked in Israel for over 40 years. We (as well as bystanders!) were brought to tears by his heartfelt plea and exhortation. He called me “Jeremiah” and prayed that I would not water down the message of the hour. He laughed joyously when he learned that my given name is Mordechai.
We then filmed a program on the bloodlines of Isaac and Ishmael, and their relationship to the blessings of God on Earth.
All very exciting … and we are rounding the bend toward home. Only four more programs to film.
Tuesday was Katharine’s birthday, and producer Ken Berg and TV team Bill Elliott and Ken Waller gave her a beautiful and unexpected gift of pearl earrings!
What a blessing!
Keep us in your prayers; there is still more to do!

Shalom from the City of David’s greater Son!
We are in the ‘calm’ before the storm. The tour folks have dispersed, either to their homes or on to Petra. We have a day in Jerusalem to prep for the upcoming TV push.
We are fired up about using the TV opportunity to make the case for Israel as the legitimate home for the Jewish people. The Jews have a 4000 year old indigenous presence that is being written out of the public consciousness by the brilliant tactics developed for Hitler by Joseph Goebbels: tell a big enough lie long enough and people will believe it.
We are both fighting a chest/cough/crud from the humanity crush, but will be fine. It just weakens us going in to the 12 + programs we are about to film.
Not worried, but wouldn’t mind a healing!
Very excited about the series and the interviews … SO frustrated by the constant “nickel and dime” rocket attacks on the southern area of the Land. The obtuse reportage from the West is maddening. Politicians are seemingly shocked at the continual alliances between warring Islamic factions. The “genius” of Bin Laden and his ilk has been in overcoming the biblical prophecy about the sons of Ishmael and Esau—“that his hand would be against his brothers”—and uniting them against a common enemy, Jews and Christians, i.e., “infidels.”
We had a woman from a radically Islamic country on our tour. She is a Westerner whose husband has worked in said land for 7 years. She sparked many intercessory prayer sessions along the way with tales of horrific Muslim abuses ( including allowing an infant to die when the parents wouldn’t convert from Jesus to Islam!). Her testimony was of the price paid and the strength of local believers in these lands.
God help us in the West if we pursue the ways of Neville Chamberlain.
Islam is a fascist ideology with a religious overlay using democratic laws to manipulate liberal countries into submission.
Look up hudna, taqiya, jizya, and dhimmi to understand what we are facing.
PTL He is saving souls all over the world and building His army, which wrestles not against flesh and blood.
Regards to the Zola Levitt Ministries community, Beth Shalom, and Beit Abba for standing with us as Esther with Mordechai!

Shalom from Jerusalem, the city of the Great King!
As a precious gift to our group last night, we arrived to the tune of “Jerusalem of Gold” as our bus pulled into the Mt. Scopus overlook exactly at sundown and the beginning of shabbat. Orchestrated by Him, the sun dipped behind the hills as the golden city shone and the moon appeared. We read Psalm 122 and worshipped making the praises of God overcome the Muslim call to prayer. There wasn’t a dry eye in the group.
We had just visited Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were unearthed on November 29, 1947. That “happened” to be the day the UN voted on the creation of the modern State of Israel! What a birthday present … and the fulfillment of the Isaiah 66:8 prophecy that a nation would be born in a day!
Who has ever heard of such things?
Who has ever seen things like this?
Can a country be born in a day
or a nation be brought forth in a moment?
Yet no sooner is Zion in labor than she gives birth to her children.
Never in the history of the world had such a thing happened before—but God keeps His word. As definitely foretold here and in Ezekiel 37:
21 Then say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will take the children of Israel from among the nations to which they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land.
22 And I will make them one nation in the land, upon the mountains of Israel, and one King shall be King over them all;
God substantiated His regathering of the Jewish people with the gift of the most extravagant scrolls of intact Scriptures in the history of mankind.
Israel became a recognized nation, actually “born in one day.” After being away from their homeland for almost 2,000 years, the Jews were given a national homeland in Palestine by the Balfour Declaration in November, 1917. In 1922, the League of Nations gave Great Britain the mandate over “Palestine.” (Remember, Palestine was the derogatory name given to the Jewish state by the Romans after they leveled it in the first century.)
Several months later, the public declaration followed the November vote and on May 14, 1948, Great Britain withdrew its mandate, and immediately Israel was declared a sovereign state, and its growth and importance among nations became astonishing! The next day, all surrounding Arab nations attacked the new, re-born, baby Israel.
Our eclectic group is off to Bethlehem today to explore the difference between religion and relationship.
When I think about Bethlehem, I am saddened by the persecution and manipulation that has whittled down the Christian population over the last number of years. They have been bought out, driven out, and threatened out of the historic city. The remaining Believers suffer to stand for the Lord in His own birth city! That is why it is our privilege to stand with the genuine Arab Christians in Bethlehem. Katharine and I raised funds for them for years before we came to ZLM. What a blessing to find that ZLM also supports the Christians in Bethlehem! Check our series Acts: Then and Now … the Story Continues to see my interview with Bethlehem pastor Naim Khoury.
Daily life goes on here in the center of the world. Today is shabbat, so the streets are quieter in the Jewish sections of Jerusalem. The peace of God hovers over the city and it seems impossible that rockets are poised to follow the vitriolic words aimed at Israel from every direction. Clearly, “kingdoms in conflict” describes the day in which we live.
Behind the weapons hardware lurks the three mindsets struggling for supremacy: The Barbarian, the Greek, and the Hebraic (biblical) approaches inform all thought that drives the actors on the world stage.
We know that the biblical paradigm will triumph, but the cost will be severe.
Thank God for His Word and the assurance that He releases through His love.
Romans 8:28–Now we know that all things work together for good, to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
As we in America prepare for the upcoming elections, I am not surprised that the issue of support for Israel is on the back burner. My prayer is that the third debate will expose each candidate’s true heart regarding the Jewish State.
Why?
Because civilizations have come and gone based on their treatment of the tiny population of God’s (sometimes reluctant) Chosen People.
Where are the Assyrians, Babylonians. Greeks, Romans, and Ottomans?
Gone from the world stage … although the Ottomans are on a crash course with modern cultures for a resurgence of their “Golden Era.”
Islam believes it will dominate, as even the most cursory view of their current propaganda testifies.
Here in Israel, Palestinian Media Watch ( PMW) under the leadership of Itamar Marcus (friend and frequent interviewee of ZLM) has recently revealed a stunning but predictable fact.
Currently “number 7 with a rocket launcher,” to paraphrase old time rock ‘n’ roll radio parlance, is the song, “On the Way To Jerusalem”, which proclaims the future of a “Judenrein” (JEW-FREE) Middle East, with all the cities of Israel in the control of Arab Muslims.
“Jaffa, Acre, Haifa, and Nazareth are ours.
[ I ], Muhammad, sing about the Galilee and the Golan (Heights).
Jaffa, Acre, Haifa and Nazareth are ours.
[ I ], Kabha, sing about the Galilee and the Golan (Heights).
From Bethlehem to Jenin is Palestinian,
Ramle, Lod, and Sakhnin are Palestinian.
Nowhere is more beautiful than Jerusalem;
no matter how much we travel
From Safed to Al-Badhan (near Nablus) is Palestinian;
Tiberias and Ashkelon are Palestinian.”
This is the “partner for peace” that Israel is required to negotiate with, by the USA and the UN.
God help us all.
As the nominees put forth their ideas on the stage of American presidential politics, I am listening for God. Is there a sound coming from either that reflects ANYTHING of the heart of God, His values, His way of administering life. I believe I am hearing an undercurrent, a sound of something that reminds me of His character.
It is hard to hear because the candidates are on their best behavior, putting forth their most well-honed platitudes and focus-tested “facts.” Both are charming and schooled and as I try to set aside my leanings and cautions, I think one sounds more … presidential.
Of course I am looking forward to the foreign policy debate because of my vital interest in America’s relationship with Israel. Israel is not only the “canary in the coal mine” for the Middle East and any hope of sanity and civilization in that troubled region. It is the “canary” for determining America’s place in the prophetic future of planet Earth! If we do not adjust our approach to the nations and governments in that area, we will lose out with God, as has every country that has opposed Israel throughout history. Genesis 12:1–3 is the standard, and those who bless and curse the children of Abraham will receive God’s fulfilled promise.
I pray daily for our government. On the day that President Obama was elected, at dawn I sat in a Scottish guest house in Jerusalem. As my traveling charges slept peacefully, the Arab kitchen man and I watched America’s election returns. He joyfully exclaimed “Hussein Obama, Hussein Obama. My friend, this is good for my country, Palestine, and good for America!”
I was quiet.
I had no confidence in John McCain, but I worried about our country’s choice.
But a still, small voice seemed to remind me, “Pray for your new president, that he might grow in office, like Harry Truman.”
I did.
For several years, I exhorted congregations and groups where I spoke to pray FOR our president.
Now America has another choice to make.
Can a presidential election make a difference?
I am not sure.
We all need to vote—either for continuation or the possibility of a change.
Even with a new president, this country will have to dig out from the consequences of past legislative choices.
Again, I will be in Israel when America makes its choice.
Genesis comes to mind. I pray that America chooses to be on God’s side as the Day of the Lord approaches.
We are truly living in “interesting” times.
Years ago I wrote an article begging the Muslim world to put forth voices of reason, love, or at least, a sense of humor. I called it “Waiting for Martin,” and with tongue in cheek, I searched the horizon for a Martin Luther reformer, a Martin Luther King restorer, or a Martin Short comic representative who could help the Muslim world laugh a little at itself. Stop proving that the ‘religion of peace’ is the opposite of that moniker by lightening up and joining the rest of us in flawed humanity. No way.
In fact, our own government is now joining the fray on the side of those within Islam who would outlaw free speech, especially any humorous fun poked at Allah or Mohammed. Of course, it is fine to defame and demonize Jews and Christians … just DO NOT EVER say anything offensive about Islam. Imagine my delight when I read the following, written by an Egyptian journalist, Imad al-Din Hussein, a columnist for Al Shorouk, Cairo’s daily newspaper:
“We curse the West day and night, and criticize its [moral] disintegration and shamelessness, while relying on it for everything. … We import, mostly from the West, cars, trains, planes … refrigerators, and washing machines. … We are a nation that contributes nothing to human civilization in the current era. … We have become a burden on [other] nations. … Had we truly implemented the essence of the directives of Islam and all [other] religions, we would have been at the forefront of the nations. The world will respect us when we return to being people who take part in human civilization, instead of [being] parasites who are spread out over the map of the advanced world, feeding off its production and later attacking it from morning until night. … The West is not an oasis of idealism. It also contains exploitation in many areas. But at least it is not sunk in delusions, trivialities, and external appearances, as we are. … Therefore, supporting Islam and the prophet of the Muslims should be done through work, production, values, and culture, not by storming embassies and murdering diplomats.”
Hallelujah! A “Martin” is here. However, we shall see what fate befalls him for daring to speak out about the religion of “pieces.” Let’s pray for his safety and an increase in his platform and influence.
